Does anyone know if there are any plans to have MediaBin run on a unix-based platform?

From what I understand, there are plans for a solaris 'interface' to serve up mediabin content, but the back end still needs to be on Windoze because of the media conversions. In other words, no. That's hearsay, though, but since you haven't heard any official replies to your post, it's probably true.

There are no plans currently to port the MediaBin image processing capabilities to Solaris. There are just too many libraries and client applications required for all our transformations that are only available on Windows.

That being said, we do provide numerous API's and can be deployed in mixed environements. As a for instance we have supported implementations in which the database was run on Oracle running on a non-Windows machine (Solaris if I recall correctly).
