Try making the indicated changes:function init() {
//IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSave", saveHandler);
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/ExpirationDate", "onItemChange", datevalid);
}

// Function is called when user saves the form
// Sets the DCR name. Ensures no overwrites
function datevalid(ExpirationDate) { // this is passed in by the item handler
alert("In datevalid");
var Publishingdate = IWDatacapture.getItem("/PublishedDate");
alert("parsing dates");
var pubDate = Date.p****(Publishingdate.getValue()); // You had [****
alert("pubDate: "+pubDate);
var expDate = Date.parse(ExpirationDate.getValue());
alert("expDate: "+expDate);
if (expDate > pubDate) {
alert("Please Select 'Short Project Name' from The Drop Down Menu");
return false;
}else{
alert(expDate);
alert("Please Select 'Short Project Name' from The Drop Down Menu");
return true;
}
}If it still doesn't fully work - do you get any of the alerts? If so - which ones?

In addition to ghotis suggestion make the following changes :

Change

//IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSave", saveHandler);

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSaveValid", datevalid);

and remove

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/ExpirationDate", "onItemChange", datevalid);

Thank you Fish, this code doesn't work. its not giving me any errors either. I tried some variations for my previous code and it works, the only difference here is that the whole validation happens on the init function, i wanted to happen on expirationDate onItemChange event. Or atleast on onsave event.

here is the sample code. this works when i refresh the template.
Thank you

function init() {

//IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSave", saveHandler);
var Publishingdate = IWDatacapture.getItem("/PublishedDate");
var pubDate = Date.parse(Publishingdate.getValue());
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/ExpirationDate", "onItemChange", datevalid(pubDate));

}

// Function is called when user saves the form
// Sets the DCR name. Ensures no overwrites
function datevalid(pubDate) {

var Expirationdate = IWDatacapture.getItem("/ExpirationDate");
var expDate = Date.parse(Expirationdate.getValue());
//alert(pubDate);
if (expDate > pubDate) {
alert("Please Select 'Short Project Name' from The Drop Down Menu"+ pubDate);
return false;
}else{
alert(expDate);
alert("Please Select 'DO it");
return true;
}
}

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", init);

I got it, thank you everyone.

So what was the problem??

You should post your resolution to assist those with a similar issue.

Bhargav Coca

here is the working model.

function init() {
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSaveValid", datevalid);
}
// Sets the DCR name. Ensures no overwrites
function datevalid() {
var Publishingdate = IWDatacapture.getItem("/PublishedDate");
var pubDate = Date.parse(Publishingdate.getValue());
var Expirationdate = IWDatacapture.getItem("/ExpirationDate");
var expDate = Date.parse(Expirationdate.getValue());
if (expDate > pubDate) {
return true;
}else{
//alert(expDate);
alert("Please Select Expiration Date Greater Than Publish Date");
return false;
}
}

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", init);

Thank you
