New to Solaris Platform-Need help

Hi All,

I'm new to the solaris platform and need some help while I perform some installations.

Installation#1

I need help in setting up JDK 1.5 on the solaris server.I downloaded the JDK executable file from the sun site and tried to execute it.After initial Terms and conditions when it prompted for an yes/no to proceed with installtion I typed "yes" at the prompt.But soon got a message saying the download file appears to be corrupted.I have tried downloading the executable file twice from sun site and perform installation but getting the same error.Kindly help

Installation#2

I need to install Tomcat 6.0.COuld you please help me with the high level steps as to how should I proceed with the installation.Thanks.

PS:-I have done these kind of installations on windows but having trouble while doing in Solaris platform.Thanks

I had the same problems when trying to install with an executable.

My "solution" was to install the zipped version, so download the zip package.

Unzip it, to a temp folder, then issue command "pkgadd -d ."

Then you can select which packages are you going to install (JRE, JDK, Docs, etc...)

It will install itself to /usr/java (/usr/java1.5 or java 1.6 if I remember well) if you don't specify anything else in JAVA_HOME environment variable. But you can find exact installation instructions for Solaris/java if you search for it.

For Tomcat it's more simple. Download the zip file, unpack it (unzip) and you're done. Of course You can rename/move the created folder. Maybe the only requirement is to set up the JAVA_HOME variable (in .bash_profile insert a row: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java if the folder exists).
