Is Verity overkill?

We are looking to index a small number of DCRs (about 20K) for a search feature that will not have a huge volume (about a dozen very frequent users, 12 more infrequent). My impression is that Verity is huge enterprise product that consumes a lot of resources. I see that for our size content, Interwoven claims that it can run on the same box as TeamSite, but I am leery. I was thinking about going for a simple search product that integrates well with Perl and requires minimal maintenance (like Plucene).

Has anyone taken a similar approach? Will Verity scale down to suit our needs?

Interwoven has OEM with verity and the verity binaries are bundled in the search installtion and used by the search services internally. There is nothing such as verity server installed or running on the search box and few tasks like filtering are out of process, So effectively only the minimal verity code path is used. Though search (indexing) itself can be much memory intensive during the boot up (due to large number of files to be cracked and indexed) and hence its recomended to use the separate search server.
