LWP::Simple

Hi

I am using the following ipl script in an INLINE command on a form.

#!d:/iwhome/iw-perl/bin/perl
use LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple;
$url = "http://localhost/fn-teamsite/completex.xml";
$xmlFile = get($url);
print $xmlFile;

and i returns nothing. But when i tried to execute that in the command line and it returns the values of the file.
Please help me to fix the problem

Are you sure the script is running when it is inlined? Can you take out all the LWP code and add a simple substiture snippet and/or add logging?

Yes its running and the log files is being updated. But its not printing any output when i run thru the INLINE command, but in the command line it creates the output and log file is also get updated.

An inline command needs to return XML within a <substitution>....</substitution> element - are you sure the URL you are retrieving information from does that already? My guess is that the URL is retrieving some data (which hopefully is in the correct structural format for a DCT - and that you need to wrap the restults in a <substitution>...</substitution> element before printing it to STDOUT.

Yes the output is an XML file and i have included the tags properly. But still its not working in INLINE command only.
The following is the output generated when its running in perl command line.
<substitution>
<option value="1" label="1 Software" />
<option value="2" label="2 Software" />
<option value="3" label="3 Software" />
</substitution>

How are you specifying the inline command string?

On Windows - you need to provide the path to perl *and* the path to the script - i.e.:

...="d:/iwhome/iw-perl/bin/perl d:/iw-home/.../scriptname.ipl"

If you are just specifying the script without prefacing it with the path to perl - that would probably explain why it isn't running as an inline command.

I am specifing the complete perl path and complete path of the script too.
<inline command="D:/iwhome/iw-perl/bin/iwperl.exe

/iwhome/custom/testxml.ipl"/>

The ipl is been called and executed. But it retuns NOTHING when its been exeuted in the inline command.

Not sure what to suggest other than adding a bunch of debugging lines to your code and looking for ways to retrieve more information from LWP: Smiley Frustrated

One other thing to think about is that an INLINE is not running with any environment, nor with any user context. So, if the LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple call requires some environment variables or some kind of user context, that would explain the issue. If its environment that's needed, you could set that up in a BEGIN block in your code. If there is some kind of user-context requirement, I don't really have a suggestion.
