Manipulating Select Box

Hi there,

Any one can provide some help... it would be grateful.

What actually happening is... I have a non-mandatory select box which is being populated with a blank field and some values from the database. Whenever a content editor opens up a new DCR... none of the value is selected in the list box. As it is non-mandatory it also saved successfully.

But when content editor clicks on the select box and selects the blank value .. it has been trapped in FormAPI and when it selects any other value he can save the DCR.

NOW where i need help is if now editor does not want to fill up the value in select box... how it can be set to blank.

I can't understand exactly what the problem is. The blank option in the select is there because the field is not required. All they need to do is select that blank option and no value will be stored in the xml. Is there something I am missing?
