Export Operation Please help

Hi guys,

I am facing problem regarding exporting operation. I want to export a file from server to client. My file suppose C:\test.xls is in server where webtop placed.

I want to save it into client locations irrespecitve of different clients.

Through Export Service I can only export a file which in already in documentum repository. But here my file outside documentum. So how can the client can save through webtop.

Please help me on this . Please give some suggestions.....

I'm a little confused by your problem description. You have a file that you want to export from the application server but is not in a docbase. Is this file located within the Webtop application's directory structure? Does access to the file need to be secured? - e.g. downloadable by specific users.

Depending on where the file is located and how it should be secured you could:

- create a regular HTML link to it

- stream the file to the HTTP output stream (from custom WDK component or custom servlet)

Thanks for your attention. As you asked , the file is out of docbase only means it locates in one drive where the application server resides. There is no need to secured access.

Iam using java request and response object as u you said we can achieve this. So I have written a servlet which calls that functionality and configured in web.xml.

But when I tried to execute from webtop as a component it is giving error that 404 not found.

I dont know what are parameters I have to pass while invoking servlet from webtop. Do you know anything regarding this please help to me. Is there any samples available to invoke servlet from webtop.

I used below script to call servlet:

Hi Harish,

Here are some steps that you could try:

1. Just place the file in a folder under webtop directory e.g. webtop/my_file

2. Custom webtop page e.g. titlebar, menubar or other to put a link to the file location e.g. http://hostname:port/webtop/my_file/filename.xls

3. When the use click the link, it will ask to open, save or cancel just like the normal download.
