Help need regarding forward date deployment

Hi,

I am new to TS and my requirement is, After the approval in the workflow the editor will select the date of deployment and the deployment should occur on the selected date.

May I know how to include this requirement in the workflow. Any help would be appreciated.

You could use a CGI task in the workflow, called something like "Schedule". This could capture the date / time from the user, and then programmatically set its timeout according to what they have entered.

Options for the user interface include some fancy calendar / clock widget or just something simple to capture text input. There's a Perl module on CPAN (sorry I forget which) that can help you convert human readable input like "tomorrow 1pm" to the MMDDYYYYHHMM format required by the timeout element.

Please be sure, the task on which you are going to set the timeout should be a USERTASK or a DUMMYTASK.

I'm pretty sure a CGI task can have a timeout too? I'm happy to be proved wrong of course ;-)

Thanks for the info. May I know how to capture the user entered data in the WorkFlow. Appricate if anyone provides a simple example on how to capture the data. Timeout should be set to UserTask or DummyTask?

Take a look at Appendix D of your Workflow Developer Guide (for TeamSite 6.5), there is a section going through a complete, working example of a TeamSite workflow with a CGI task.

One way of setting the timeout is for the CGI script running the CGI task to have a few sections which execute depending on the current state. The first time through, it could display the form with an input box. This posts to the same script in a second state, showing a confirmation screen. This in turn could post to itself in a third state which sets the timeout, tells the user it has been done, and runs the CallBack to the workflow so that the job continues.

The actual code to set the timeout could be something like
$task->SetTimeout($timeout);
although I've seen it done in different ways.

I'm not positive (been a while since I've done this), but I believe you need to make sure the task has a default timeout value set in the wft before you can use the SetTimeout() function to adjust the timeout for the task.
