dfc program copy/moving one docbase content to another docbase

Hi Guys,

I am in need to wirte a DFC Utility program that we can use as a tool for copying one docbase content to another docbase.

First we are targeting for same platform say Windows OS to Windows OS.

Please share you thoughts and idea abt it and if anybody already written this please let me know how to do.

What type of migration will it be: online or offline?

Govind, in case of offline migration I see two ways:

Migrate with docapp;
Migrate with dumps.

You have two options.

1) Create a program to Export files and metadata from source repository save it in the file system, import it to the target repository. You can use the Deep Export and Deep Import utilities available in the Component Exchange to do the import export of the content file. You have to customize this program to save all versions and metadata to accomplish this.

2) Create a program which connects to the target and source docbase and do the transfer from source to the target using threads. I have a sample program available with me to do the migration which I got from Haroon wrote (Thanks to Haroon!). You can modify it to meet your requirement. I can send that to you if you want. I think you can write a DFC program which makes use of DFC's copy operation in order to copy content from one docabse to another.

You can also use Webtop (Copy/Paste), if the amount of content isnt too large.

Oh, yes, I know, haha. But, yes, the amount will be large. What we have in mind is an automatic job that moves "closed" documents to another docbase for retention, so the user doesn't have to move them manually.

In that case, you should definitely use DFC Copy operation classes

Johnny, I need to move the documents, but it seems that IDfMoveOperation can't move between diferent docbases.

I suppose I can use IDfCopyOperation and IDfDeleteOperation to archieve it, right?

Rijo, I've seen your example and you copy documents using streams. What do you think of using IDfCopyOperation?
