Browser Dependency for import operation

HI all,

We have some issue with import operation.It is working fine with IE 6 and shows error in IE 7 and IE 8.We are working in Documentum 5.3 envieronment.

Please let me know if it is constraints from EMC 5.3 documentum product or issue with configuration the application.

Its hard to say whether new versions of browser will work with older software (5.3). Most of the time of though, its the version of JRE that causes problems with content transfer (eg import). I would check to see if your IE7 or 8 is using the JRE that is specified in the release notes for 5.3. I have seen newer versions of JRE cause problems with Webtop.

Dear johny,

thanks for ur reply ,and sorry to delay in communication.Now for import operation it works fine at application server,but when we try it at from client machine it shows for ucf exception.We have jre 1.5 and webto 5.3 sp2. we have tried for cleaning the cach,browser history and java temp file along with ucf folder available at documentum home . We are surprised as we are able to import and export from application server and not from client.It seems it is not just the browser dependency but jre requierment for such operation.we have tried with 1.4 ,1.5 and 1.6 jre for all it is getting failed.

please help on this issue.

Have you tried Firefox? That may not be your company standard, but I have seen IE 7 and 8 be more "finicky" about javascript/jsp then Firefox. If you have to use IE, then my only recommendation is to upgrade your app server to latest Webtop (6.5SP2), which does officially support IE 7.

thanks again johnny , Both the option are not feasable right now. you are right firefox is not our company stenderd and we have to change whole content server setup and all application to upgrade from 5.3 sp2 to 6.5 (,and this might be the proper solution .)

I just want to know if any other thing can run import at client as it is working at server with same configuretion.

Actually, you can have Webtop 6.5 running against 5.3 Content Server.

You might wanto try disabling all security features on your client machines and if it works, re-enable them one after the other to see which ones crashes the UCF, then you migth be able to act accordingly.

Also, I have seen in some instances that setting the environment variable JAVA_PLUGIN_WEBCONTROL_ENABLE to True in the OS environment variables of the client machines solved this kind of problems.

At last, in your IE Security, set the Webtop site in the Trusted sites, who knows...

We faced this problem (taskspace 6.6 - IE7 - jre 5u22 - XP SP3) and we it solved with these steps:

re install IE7 form Micrsoft web site
re install jre 6 update 7
update Windows XP SP3 (NOTE: deselect any update related to IE8)
restart the OS.

try to import any document and it will solve.

Can you please

1. Delete in/via IE:

- Browswer cache

- cookies

- downloaded applets

2. Delete in/via javacpl (java control panel)

- java cache

After that, add the Webtop URL to trusted sites and then test if it is working
