Simple tpl question...

I need to determine if a DCR node exists, and if so, take action, if not.. well, take a different action. Here's my code that doesn't seem to work:

<iw_iterate list='event_dcr.events.event[0].appearance.performer' var='performer'>
<iw_if expr='{iw_value name="performer.name"} ne ""'>Artists Include: </iw_if>
<iw_value name='performer.name'/><br>
</iw_iterate>

My current guess is that i'm referring to an empty node incorrectly. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Okay, I got most of it working! Mostly stupid errors

I'm still can't figure out how to check if a node is empty though. In the below example, the "name" element is sometimes empty. How would I test for that? What I'm doing below is not working...

<iw_if expr=" '' ne {iw_value name='event_dcr.events.event[0].repertoire.work[0].composer.name'/}">
And Featuring music by:
</iw_if>
<iw_iterate list='event_dcr.events.event[0].repertoire.work' var='work'>
<iw_if expr=" '' ne {iw_value name='work.composer.name'/}">
<iw_then><iw_value name='work.composer.name'/><br></iw_then>
</iw_if>
</iw_iterate>
