Forms Connection and Display - How to (Hello World)

Likely most of you will consider this question "too basic" to bother with... perhaps that's a problem too. If someone would provide a clear, concise answer, it would totally be appreciated.

I have read through 10K+ pages of documentation (I read fast), scoured these boards, run dozens of searches, and cannot find a simple, straightforward answer. There is lots of sales and marketing information that says "you can do this or that" but zero that says how to do it. There is lots of technical information that specifies code, configurations, and all sorts of extreme details for obscure problems. But the common, ordinary, simple "how to" stuff seems to not exist. If it were really that intuitive, I would not be posting this question.

There is no sample, no basic information (I can find) that would tell me, in 1, 2, 3 steps, how to

1. Create a form template (did that),

2. Install the template (did that - click button) ....

3. Use the template to create a form (template does not appear in TaskSpace lists) and

4. Connect the form so it displays something (data and document image).

This shouldn't be so difficult. I've created dozens of forms for other DB applications and web applications and not had near this much trouble finding simple, straightforward instructions for getting a form connected to the data and displaying it to a user.

I have created a form template in Forms Builder. Ultimately, the form is intended to display an image of a document along with some related data and links. I would like to have the form be displayed for a user, any user would be fine. The form does not represent a task nor is it necessarily part of a process; it's intended as a sort of dashboard to present information from multiple sources to the user. Navigation is either "previous/next" in the same folder/directory or "search" for the "document name."

Basically, my question is how to hook it up (real basic level)?

How do I get a form to display for a user - somewhere anywhere?

How do I get the data to display for a user - real simple?

How do I get a document image to display for a user - ditto?

If there were an end-to-end sample (that I could find) I would use it as a starting point and build from there. That, like the straightforward instruction that I'm asking for here, doesn't seem to exist.

- I presume you are talking about Webtop. If so, File->New Form, select Form template, form template is displayed.

- Are you talking about the data the user enters? If so, editing the form should show you the data entered by the user. If you map the form fields to object attributes, then you can view attribute values by clicking on object properties.

3) How do I get a document image to display for a user - ditto?

- This is a TaskSpace function. You should read up on the TaskSpace Configuration guide for more detail.s

I'm going to assume you are trying to display a form in TaskSpace, since Johnny talked about Webtop. I'm also making the assumption that you used an Electronic Form type template when you created your form, since you said you didn't want it related to a workflow task and you didn't mention search. Based on that, give this a try:

1. Go to the Configuration tab in TaskSpace (logged in as ts_designer).

2. Click on Components in the navigation tree.

3. Click Add.

4. Select your form and click Ok.

5. Click on Tabs in the navigation tree.

6. Click Create.

7. Select Generic Form and click Next.

8. Select the form you created from the Form Name drop down, fill out the rest of the info and click Finish.

9. Click Roles in the navigation tree.

10. Either edit an existing role to include the new tab or add a role from the repository and set it up or create a new role and set it up.

This addresses your form question. I need more info about what data you are trying to show the user before I can make suggestions with that.

Since I actually tried to help you, instead of simply telling me I am wrong in my assumptions, you could clarify where I was wrong, tell me in more detail what you are actually asking, and see if I could then provide anything useful. You could, theoretically, even thank me for my attempt at being helpful. Or not.

Johnny answered his own question, not mine. The two are not related.

Form template is not available in Task Space. Form is not available in Task Space.

Form template IS available, saved and can be edited in Form Designer.

Option to "Add" is not available.

What type of form did you create in Forms Builder? I've noticed that TaskSpace will only show forms created as Electronic Forms when you create a tab using the method I described. TaskSpace uses "Generic Form" but Forms builder calls it "Electronic Form" or something similar.

On the other hand, for example, if you create a search form template in Forms Builder, you would create a search form tab as well. Again, TaskSpace is only going to show you search form templates in this case.

Connect the form so it displays something -- again, what the something is will likely relate to the type of form you have created. What are you trying to show? Properties? Search results?

Document display -- modified to display data fields next to the image of the document.

I understand I need to create a template then select it to create a form. The template is "installed" but I cannot see it in TaskSpace to select it to create a form. Somehow the Forms Builder and the Task Space are not "talking" to each other. Unless there is something else that has to be done to actually "install" the template?

Form will / should display a document image along with ODBC connected data for read only display in the related data fields.

I'm sorry, let me clarify my question. By "type of form" I meant one of the form types that you select when creating a new form in Forms Builder, from this list:

Electronic Form

High Fidelity Form

TaskSpace Component :

Document View

Folder Contents

Folder Information

Initiate Process

Process Instance List

Process Parameter

Task

Task List

These are the types that are tied to what TaskSpace sees. I do not believe there is any additional installation required after you validate and install in Forms Builder.
