Is Index Server recommended?

Hello All,

In my company, we are using an archival docbase. It has lot of PDF documents ( more than 3 TB). All of these documents are scanned images of hard copies.

Eventhough, they are stored as PDF files, they are image files only. I can not do a find inside the PDF document.

We do not have FAST index server now. Application end users are reporting that searches are slow in webtop.

My questions is, Is it recommeded to have FAST index server in our environment?

I guess in your case, that would be useless as the content of the PDF is not searchable.

If there is no content (full text index) to be searched against, what are you searching for in your webtop search (eg object_name)? You can reconfigure webtop search to ONLY search against the database. Then you search performance is truly dependent on how your database is optimized.
