Debugging using Documentum Composer

Is it possible to debug a project in Documentum Composer?

I recently created a custom aspect in Documentum Composer and installed it to Documentum Content Server. Later on I felt a need to be able to debug the aspect's Implementation classes. Is it possible? Should I start Documentum server in debug mode for this? I have my Documentum server on Tomcat. Will starting Tomcat in debug mode be the only requirement or is it something else I need to look upon?

As I said, not possible (whether it's for TBO's, SBO's and Aspects), you'll have ti use the loging facilities.

There are a couple of threads already about that in the community. Also, if you have a PowerLink account, you could log a Feature Request about it

Never developed Aspects (yet) but I don;t think you can debug them from Composer directly. However, you should be able to use DfLogger to log anything you want...

I did successfully started Tomcat though in debug mode and connected composer to it. However, it looks like no breakpoints are being detected . Any suggestions from anyone else too?

If I recall it right, you had to register the TBOs using BOF1 mechanism (dbor.properties) in order to debug in IDE, but I could be wrong. I haven't debugged in BOF2. Some details at http://donr7n.wordpress.com/2008/09/19/debugging-bof2-modules.

Make sure your tomcat is configured with JDPA and you've specified the same port number. If you post you tomcat and Composer settings, someone may be able to help here.

In 5.3, with DBOR.properties, I have successfully debugged TOBs (invoked via Webtop) and SBOs (invoked via BPS) in Eclipse. I just have not tried it in 6.5 so cannot speak.

1. in 6.5 the deployment of TBo and SBO is Automatic

2. If I understand your post, you could successfully debug the client app calling the business objects, not the business objects themselves, which is the requirement in this case (with aspects)

In 5.3 with DBOR properties, I was able to debug the business objects project (step through TBO code) by associating it with Tomcat running Webtop. Similarly, I have debugged an SBO that is called by BPS (Apache James) application. The key thing to have local binaries. In theory, you can register your business objects with BOF1 meachnism via dbor.properites and make it work. I have not tried it so I cannot say it for fact.

I am yet to try it but it looks like this would be an answer to the problem we have been looking at.
