Read threads in Devnet ?

nipper

Is it unique to me or are others seeing threads they read yesterday show up as unread again ?

I am using Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 on an XP laptop.

Read all threads, nothing listed as new.

shutdown, come back the next day, many threads that have no new information are marked as unread.

I am certain my Irish Coffee has nothing to do with it. Smiley Wink

Yep, I'm seeing the same thing... Windows XP / IE 6.

I noticed this as well. It seems like the solution is to choose Mark Forums Read from the Forum Links pulldown and manually mark them read. Presumably there's a better way to do it, but I haven't found it yet.

Yes - I'm seeing the same thing intermittently and annoyingly in Safari (Mac)

I should not have to refresh each page (topics, index, thread, post) multiple times in order for it to be considered "read".
If *I* make a post (original or response) *my* post should not be considered as "unread" by *me*
I do not want to automatically be subscribed to every thread I respond (I don't mind it as an option - but it should be just that - an option)

In short - the new forum seems to be causing me to waste a considerable amount of time (more than I normally would wasted reading the forums ;-)

Did that prevent them as showing up next time ? Pretty much a pain & a good chance to miss some posts, but worth a try.

I haven't figured out how to respond to fish only, so I guess I'm responding to the GROUP...

Automatically subscribing to a thread is a setting that's changed in your control panel, so it IS an option but I believe it defaults "on". In fact, I have that option turned on and it has yet to update me with new messages (take this thread, for instance).

Dave, I believe the only way to indicate you are reploying to a specific person is to quote them, like this.

I don't like that. That would tend to feed my ego.

Anyway, I appreciated it before when you could click on "REPLY TO POSTER" or whatever and that person would optionally get notified of your response.

Who did UAT on this thing, anyway? DevNet seems to be of great value to Interwoven, as it quells so very many support calls they would receive anyway.

Too bad.

Well, I must admit I played with the beta before it was release. Certainly noticed a few issues. But I was also in Hawaii so I was in trouble for reading email, even though we were supposed ot go [body] surfing, devnet did not fall into that category. Smiley Wink

Yeah - I did a little messing with the beta as well, but it's only after a week or so of living with it that the things I dislike are starting to bubble to the top.

Ah - I had it set to not sending email (which was the default I believe) and never looked at it to turn off the subscription.

I can use the Thread Tools to subscribe to an individual thread now.

1 problem down.

If we can get the new/not-new indicators to work right ...

well, I too was involved in the beta, but as the beta was mostly a copy of the forums with a small sprinkling of new posts I didn't notice some of these defects then (sigh).

I'm actually seeing that all of the messages are read even though I know there are ones I've not read yet. It seems that this problem occurs every time my login expires while in the forum. Fairly annoying.

Overall, I'd say that there are a few better features in this new forum software, but I liked the old forum software better. Sorry to say. I know a lot of work went into this "upgrade."

I think the new forum software is more difficult to use, is buggier, has a login timeout, and is generally cunkier than the old forum. The features I do like are the ease of quoting previous posters, small summary of the last post, the mouse over summary of the postings.

I'm still experiencing all of these same issues, can't seem to pinpoint when they happen. Even with marking forums read, I sometimes come back later and find many old threads marked as new.

Yup - happened to me too - I just got logged in on the road, and now I'm seeing a bunch of forums/threads/posts marked as "new" when I've already seen them, and even done Mark Thread As Read prior to the trip.

This is a major annoyance as it wastes the time I spend on-line in the forums trying to find really new posts.

reddyl

I did experience the same behavior but when I logout and log back in again all the posts are shown as read. I think the new forms software only updates the post when you logout and does not update when you close the browser.

nipper

hmm, never tried to logout of devnet, only shutdown. I do use the mark all as read before I leave, that seems to cover it. But being lazy, that extra step is a pain, esp when you forget.
