Can someone provide me some sample code/snippets for adding/removing the replicants.

I need to generate the counter for the replicant container and whenever there is a new replicant I have to validate against the counter along with the value from another item(dropdown). replicant value should be equal or less to that value, if not I shouldn't allow the use to create the new replicant.

I know we can use the events onReplicantAddBefore, onReplicantAdd and onReplicant Deleted but can someone provide me good example along with generating counter for checking the replicant before the add and generate the counter after the add.

I'll give you the same answer I just posted for someone else -- the forums are not intented as a place for free-labor. You are getting paid by your ogranization to do this, we aren't. So you need to at least make some attempt at coding it yourself and then post the code and details about what is / is not happening so that someone who isn't in your environment can take a look at what you're trying to do and make suggestions.

The other outcome of this is that if you try it first - dilligently - you'll tend to learn more about how to make things work than if someone just spoon-feeds you some code.

So - I suggest you put a bit more effort into trying to resolve this yourself - and then, if you still cannot figure out how to get it to work, post your code and explain what you've done and what's not working.

I am not asking anyone to spoon feed me. This forum is there to help each other and I have helped quite lot of times in the forum for others. I thought instead of reventing the wheels again i can customize with some base code.

People have great respect on you include me and they expect some decent reply or atleast nothing, but not blah blah.

Here is the code

The condition is if the replicant is more then the drop-down then I shouldn't allow them to create the replicants.

I have 2 approach now.

1) when the user create the replicant i have to check the counter of the replicant (onReplicantBeforeAdd), if the value is equal then i have to say " you can't create anymore replicant", if not allow them to create the replicant (onReplicantAdded) and keep generating the counter.

2) based on dropdown value, i have to delete rest of the replicants. (IWItem.addInstance, IWItem.deleteInstance)

I didn't see good example for onReplicanBeforeAdd and onReplicantAdded, that's why I asked for some sample.

Do you want the number of replicants to be exactly equal to the number in your select? In other words, if the user selects 5, do you want all of your containers to have exactly 5 replicants, or do you want them to have 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 replicants?

If it is exactly 5, I would recommend always returning false from your onReplicantBeforeAdd and OnReplicantDelete functions. Your onItemChange function for your select would then add/delete replicant instances as needed.

If it is a max of 5, you would then want to have an onReplicantBeforeAdd that checks the number of replicants against your select value before adding it, there is no need for a counter.

As to what Adam said above, I would have to agree with him. The best practice is to try to create the code that you need first, then if you have specific problems, post them here. Copying and pasting someone else's code and trying to get it to do what you want leads to bad code IMO.

Your initial post provided no context of the work you had already done - too many people seem to be using the forums as a means to get free code to solve their problems without making any effort on their own, hence my suggestion that you post your code so we could see where you are and what you've done before suggesting ways to fix/improve it.

You've now at least provided some sense of the work you've done so far, and though I'd rather see more of it before phrasing a response, here is an example of using onReplicantAdded that we use for limiting the set of fields displayed in each instance of the replicant based upon a value in another, non-replicant, field. ...I have no sample code for onReplicantBeforeAdd (not AddBefore), but hopefully the above will give you an idea of the basic coding technique.

In your case, as the documentation states - the function you call can return 'false' to prevent the new replicant from being added, if the number of existing children >= the maximum value you wish to allow as set in another field.

It also sounds like you need a trigger onChange for the select list that you're using to determine how many replicants are allowed, and you'll probably need to initialize and maintain a separate key value to keep track of the previous value (i.e. if the previous value was '3' and you change it to '5' - you don't have to do anything, but if it were the other way around you would need to check that all your replicants don't have more than '3' instances and if they do, remove them (or hide them, and deal with removing them onSave).

I am sorry I should have post my existing code earlier. Anyway thanks for the code, it really helps me a lot atleast I got idea of using onReplicantAdded event. Bunch of thanks to both of u.

Here is my another prob. I am attching my code here.
Whenever u create the replicant it checks the drop-down value, if its less than the dd value then it allows to create replicant. it works fine for deeper level of container. it is something like /e/f/g I am generating replicants for g container. e and f replicant container have max of 50 replicants...instead of saying

e[1]/f[1]/g
e[1]/f[2]/g

My code works fine for e[1]/f[1]/g. If i have dd value is 2, i can create 2 replicant for g container. but this value is getting stored and checking for other container f[2] against this value which is messing up.

I have to code for e[1]/f[2]/g....e[1]/f[50]/g. instead of going thru 1-50 manually, i want to iterate thru replicant and check the dd value against it.

suggestion, tips, snippets will be more helpful.

If so, all you need to do is get the name of g replicant passed in and strip off the instance. Try replacing the above lines with these:var replicantName = replicantContainer.getName().replace(/\/[^\/]+$/, "");
