Login Ticket?

Hi there

I was wondering if EMC's CMIS implementation supported the ability to pass a login ticket to service methods in order to allow impersonation of users. I realise that the CMIS spec specifies that the transport layer should be responsible for authentication, however, I believe that this functionality is essential in building CMIS client apps (e.g. portlets or other apps that required silent login).

I believe that at least one other ECM vendor has provided support for this, getting a login ticket through their regular REST-based API then using the ticket in their CMIS AtomPub API.

We can certainly consider the request for the next release of DFS. I'll add it on the list of requirements, which we will be prioritizing soon. Also, in the near future we plan to support Kerberos with DFS.

Right now our focus will be on CMIS and DFS, so there will be little work done on the RESTful services roadmap in the near term.

You can use a login ticket as the password in one of the simple authentication protocols supported.

So for example for the AtomPub RESTful binding, you can use HTTP basic auth with a password of "DM_TICKET=abcd...".

Of course you cannot get a ticket via CMIS. More authentication flexibility will be added before the CMIS implementation is productionized.

Thanks Norrie. It's good to hear that more authentication flexibility is planned for the CMIS API.

By the way, are there any plans to modify DFS or RESTful Services to provide login tickets? One of our customers has already asked about this. We were able to provide a custom DFS service for this. Perhaps such functionality should be a core feature of these APIs.
