DFC 6.5 sp2 vs Content Server 4i

Hello,

I have to migrate content from Dctm 4i to Dctm 6.5 sp2.

I have 2 scenarios:

1) By dfc get the content from old repository and import it to the new. So the dfc 6.5 sp2 can manage dql, objects and content from Dctm 4i.

2) Extract metadata and content to disc and import then to Dctm 6.

Anybody has evaluated the first one?

Haven't evaluated the first one, but I think it can be possible, here are some clues that could help:

- We have made a custom Java program that could connect on 4i and 5.3 SP3, to do some data extraction

- We have made another custom migration program that could connect on two docbases (tested on 5.3) that were projecting to the same docbroker and transfer the data directly between them.

What I would do in your case:

- Make a simple program in DFC 6.5 to connect, query, read objects and attributes, and try to connect it into 4i docbase.

- Try to project the 4i docbase into 6.5 docbroker and connect in the docbase using the simple program above.

If both succeed, you will know that you can connect on an old 4i docbase using the new DFC 6.5 and that the old 4i docbase can project into the new 6.5 docbroker.

In my opinion these are the two points that could stop you from following your first alternative.

PS: the source and destination docbases cannot have the same name or ID.
