ApplicationXtender Newbie

My company recently acquired another company that uses ApplicationXtender, and I've been asked to look into how we can integrate AppXtender with our applications.

We have several custom-developed applications, both Web and Windows-based, all written in .NET or VB6.

I'm finding it difficult to get through all of the marketing to figure out exactly what the capabilities of ApplicationXtender are.

I've seen some materials on the ApplicationXtender Integration Module, but from what I can tell, it's made to provide the AppXtender interface to applications, and it's not a true API.

I then found the Documentum Foundation Classes and Documentum Developer Studio.

We're going to want to be able to utilize our current document management UI to interact with ApplicationXtender, so we're looking for an API, rather than a way to insert AppXtender into our application.

The Foundation Classes look like they may be what we're looking for.

Can anyone here provide me with more information on AppXtender and its integration capabilities?

I'd appreciate any background, suggestions or additional knowledge that you'd be willing to share.

I think, best option would be to migrate the whole content on the Documetum repository and stop using the AppXtender . it will help your bussiness reduce the licences for AppXtender .

But  I can think of two different scenarios as given below from your requirement.

There are different scenarios :

1: is AppXtender used by your custom applications ?

2: is AppXtender used only as one program without any integration with other application .

So for the first option- you just have to use programming interfacing with AppXtender using DFC and use the AppXtender database  and for the second option, you can migrate the AppXtender to Documentum server and than use it for different application by doing DFC or DFS interfacing.

Please elaborate your requirement. Its a kinda very generalised view.
