Re-generate with warnings

Hi

I'm using jTidy to parse some dcr content with in a presentation template.
I would like to report back to the gui that a (re-)generate has completed sucessfully but with warnings. (The warnings reported would be the jtidy warnings or errors).

Can this be done ? I've thought about writing the warnings to the files extended attributes but I also want to flag up the warnings to the user re-generating.

Anything can be done. Smiley Wink

To do this, use 2 presentation templates.

The first one just is a perl script that invokes the second one, gets the appropraite warnings and kicks off an email. I have stubbed out TPLs many times before, not tough.

Thanks for the reply. Ideally I'd like to report back to the user through the gui. It turns out the errors I'm interested in are the jtidy output errors and warnings which could be handled in a single tpl. (i don't need to catch tpl generate errors) Is it possible to "throw" an error within the tpl. something like "generate succeeded but with jtidy warnings". Is this wishful thinking.

If you're only previewing, sure, just include it in the page source. If you're generating, no, as it would then be part of the generated file (which is likely not what you want). Unless of course you're ok with this, then go ahead and do it for generating too.

To do what is being asked for, I believe you would need to replace the OOTB Preview and/or Generate menu items with a custom menu item CGI script.

If you have the custom CGI, you can then run the desired commands, capture output, and then make that output visible in the CGI window associated with your custom command (as well as opening another window to display the resultant page).

Cool. I see. Not sure if I'll be able to swing replacing the generate / re-generate options throughout the GUI. I think I'm going to have to live with logging the warnings and trust the users check during approval.
