We are always looking for ways to improve our community. You may have noticed we have been posting to our blogs, updating the member and blogger highlights, and adding new interesting content but we want to do more! We want your feedback on how we can improve our communities and make them the ultimate resource for you, our users. This is a forum to post your comments and ideas on how we may improve our communities. This may include:

New features
Content ideas (Whitepapers, discussions, how-to’s, videos, webcasts, etc.)
Better ways to find content

I think we need better cross-posting of content. There is a lot of content that is in the Documentum Community that would be useful in the Developer Network. Even if this is a manual cross-posting, having people needing to check multiple locations is tough, especially if they get busy with their day jobs.

Other things would be useful to encourage people to regularly visit and contribute. I have some half-formed ideas around this. I'll see if I can get them to form and share.

A better way to encourage and promote blogs written by the community would also help. Nothing is as frustrating as contributing and not being able to find your contribution without looking at your own profile.

Another useful tool would be more focused communications. I get the regular newsletter, but it covers communities that I don't participate in. The ones that I do participate in only have a couple of links. I'd rather get one that focused on what I was a participant within.

Those are my first thoughts. If I think of more, I'll share.

One thing I think would improve (at least for me) would be the ability to allow/disallow private messaging. I find that I receive a lot of technical questions directly as private messages and I don't think that's a good idea. the purpose of communities is to share the knowledge as well as the problems encountered so if anybody else encounters the same, he/she can find quickly a solution to it.

Right now, I reply as politely as possible that I don't answer questions in my private message and that the sender should post it in one of the discussion forums but some insist on asking directly every time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of helping and sharing with others but I can't spend hours and hours every day, scanning all the communities for new questions and answering private messages

Would be good to have this option in the profile's options (maybe leave it on for administrative messages if it happens that the system's administrators need to send a message.

Francois, I have this issue on my blog., though to a much lesser extent. What I do in that circumstance is post the question to the forums and my reply provides a link to the question. However, I can see how that could still be overwhelming, so I see value in that feature.

Another one

The spell checker when replying to a discussion or writing a document doesn't allow to add words in it.

For example, I use the word Documentum a billion times a day and since I'm not a native English speaker, I prefer to check the spelling, just in case and it always reports Documentum as misspelled. Not a big problem but that would be a + to have something like a user dictionary (worst case, I'd agree if it's save on the client machine, not on the EDN server).

A lot of forums out there allow that and I have to say, that makes it much more comfortable to use

I think the navigation is not clear enough. Are we community using Jive? That's the question maybe.

Jason, I agree with you.

However, nowadays, I've set the My View stuff to display the communities in which I go regularly and it is much better. Still room for improvement though

Francois has a great point about creating the My View to display the communities of interet to you. Another great way to keep informed of what's going on with the communities is to subscribe to the email alerts and or RSS feeds. Would it help to post a few How-To's on these subjects? It may be a case of awareness or lack of

Where is the component Exchange??? I've spent over an hour trying to find a particular component. Finally I found the page...

Hi Joseph,

I dont think that community moderators are trying to hide this site. Component Exchange was part of the old Documentum Developers Network. This site was replaced by ECN (EMC Community Network) and the Component Exchange was not migrated, since most of the code is 5.3 related.
