Dialog box closing when accessed using IP

I have the following in my behavior class

public void onInit(ArgumentList args) {      
      super.onInit(args);
        ActionService.execute("view", arg, getContext(), this, null);
}

In my JSP, I have done the following

<dmf:body>
<dmf:form>
   <script>
   window.close();
   </script>
</dmf:form>
</dmf:body>

the idea is that once the Open/Save dialog box opens, the parent browser window should close.

when I am calling this component using localhost

http://localhost:7001/cobswebtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee

it works fine.

But when I launch this component using IP

http://172.16.1.21:7001/cobswebtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee

the Open/save dialog box does not open and the parent window gets closed as well.
In other words, when I type this URL the parent window closes and nothing else is opened on the screen.

Can someone please let me know why this could be happening?

In one machine (windows XP) where application is deployed in Tomcat, I have the following in hosts file
127.0.0.1       localhost
172.16.1.176 localhost

The hosts file that have been changed are

c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
c:\i386\HOSTS

In this machine following URLs work

http://localhost:8080/webtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee
http://127.0.0.1:8080/webtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee
http://ScanPC:8080/webtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee

The following do not work

http://172.16.1.176:8080/webtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee

Even if I remove the entry
172.16.1.176 localhost
from both the hosts file, I still get the same behavior.

On another machine (window 2003 server) this application is deployed on Weblogic.
In the host file following enteries are there
127.0.0.1       localhost
172.16.1.21 localhost
dataserv2 localhost

The hosts file that have been changed are

Here the following URLs work from the same machine
http://localhost:7001/cobswebtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee

The following URL works from some other machine but does not work from the same machine
http://dataserv2:7001/cobswebtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee

The folllowing URL does not work from anywhere
http://172.16.1.21:7001/cobswebtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee

Following URL does not work from the same machine
http://127.0.0.1:7001/cobswebtop/component/dms_download_preview_item?global.objectId=09000d6880001eee
