Question about Editions in Teamsite 6.1
Balu110
I would like to clarify the following on Editions in TS 6.1 on Solaris:
1) Is there any possibility to limit number of editions in a branch?
2) Does Teamsite performance goes down, if we have too much of Editions?
3) Also, If is there any possibility to achieve/restore editions alone?
Thanks in advance,
Balu.

You probably could, but I doubt there is a reason to.
2) Does Teamsite performance goes down, if we have too much of Editions?
In old versions of TS, there were performance implications with way too many Editions. This
has not been the case for several years.
BTW, TeamSite has included hidden editions so there can be 10s of thousands of editions
available to you. You just have to since them. Search for hidden editions, Ghoti did a nice
dissertation a year or 2 ago about them.
3) Also, If is there any possibility to achieve/restore editions alone?
archive you mean ? no

Hi Nipper,
Thanks for the quick response.
For #3, I meant Edition backups and restore. I am thinking, for better utilization of disk space, archive Editions and remove it from Teamsite server. I am not sure, whether it is possible in TS.

Disk is cheap. Removing editions is of marginal value anyway. Since an edition increases the
disk by the difference from the previous edition, it may not save much.
Now you *could* archive a bunch of editions (outside of TeamSite, copy to DVD or something)
and then remove the editions. Still not deterministic on how much disk you truly would save.
There are no good ways to get that information back into TeamSite/

You can archive editions using multistore and iwmigrate (multistore is a separate license fee though - so check with your local legal folks and/or IWOV sales folks to ensure you either have the license or don't need it for transitional usage - i.e. if you're not keeping mulitple stores active for a length of time)
