API call to set document number

Hi all,

We want to write a custom command in Desksite/Filesite that performs a relocate function for a single document to another database, like the relocate function in Monitor.

I'm having a problem assigning the same document number for the relocated document in the other database. Does anyone know if its possible to set the document number for a document during/after you create it using the API?

I've tried using "nrtdoc.number=1234" and "nrtdoc.SetAttributeValueByID nrDocNum,1234" but neither work.

If Monitor can assign the same number when relocating surely there must be an api function that can assign a document number right?

Document numbers cannot be set via the SDK. They can only be generated by our back-end server or server utility tools; this is because the server code do not call the COM API's.
