CIS upgrade

Hi ,

Currently i have CIS 5.3 sp1 installed .i need to upgrade intelligence services to 6.5 sp2 .could you please let me know procedure for that ,since nothing is mentioned in PDF.

Do i need to uninstall current version of CIS 5.3 sp1 first ? if yes then how can i save my configuration and taxonomies in current environment ?

is it required to have separate database in CIS 6.5 sp2 also as we need in CIS 5.3 sp1,currently nothing is mentioned abt this installation pdf .

Hi Mridul,

The first sentence of chapter 2 "Installing CIS" of the CIS Installation Guide is "Uninstall any previous installation of CIS." ("Preinstallation tasks" page 11).

Taxonomies, category classes, and docsets are objects stored in the repository so they will not be "touched" by the uninstall/install process.

Once CIS is installed and the repository enabled for the CIS server, you will need to synchronize taxonomies and docsets to the new server.

All documents in the docsets will need to be processed by the new CIS, so you may need to plan a high load period.

When migrating from 5.3 as you do (I agree installation documentation is week on that), you do not need a separate CIS database anymore.

Beware that some advanced 5.3 configurations, taking place at the CIS server level, might not be migrated. If you use such advanced configurations in your CIS 5.3 application, then I suggest you contact support to get advices on the migration process.

Hi Mridul,

If you're migrating from 5.3 to 6.x, you should have a look at CIS 6.0 Administration guide.

Many things were modified in 6.0 so the section "How to make up for 5.3 legacy tools" on page 14 will help you identify the differences between 5.3 versions and 6.x versions. I'm attaching the file here, let us know if you need more information.
