Create dm_message_archive with msg file

Hi ALL,

We have a migration requirement like.

We need to migrate the .msg files from an existing systm to documentum.

Is ther any DCO api(i.e DFC API), which will take .msg as input and create dm_message_archive  for the main mail and dm_message_attachment  for attachments extracting from that msg file.

Or we need to extract the attachments and mail content separately using some third party java API and then create the objects.

Please provide your  suggestions !

I am not aware if there is any API available where you can create dm_message_archieve objects. Probably you may have look at messageArchive.jar and messageservice.jar files that comes with DFC. But I never tried creating dm_message_archive objects outside DCO environment.

I worked on DCO 5.3 SP3 2-3 years back but lot of things might have changed in DCO 6.5. In DCO you need to create profile ( public/ private, for a user) where you mention the email message object type it can be dm_message_archieve object or its sub-type, attachment object it can be dm_document or its sub-type. When user drags and drops email message, DCO app creates these objects in Documentum. DCO app does lot of internal activities, it reads meta data associated with email message like sender, recipient, subject etc and assigns that meta data information in message archieve object in Documentum. You can import multple email messages in single operation through DCO.

I know there is product called "Open Interchange" from TSG  to import email message to Documentum. It is opern source tool, probably you may be interested in looking at that product. You can find it in their website.
