but how do you determine in a script if an edition is older then 30 days? or if there are more then 30 editions?

oops, started to realise that I can't think of a single unix command that would give you the contents in a folder (branch/EDITION) that are older than 30 days. you can do "find . -mtime +30" but that will also dig deeper in the subfolders.
find /.iwmnt/default/main/branch/EDITION/* -prune -mtime +30
