Value Assistance Problem

Hello,

I have created the object type "myobject_type" and it has two attributes "myatt_number" and "myatt_name" and "myatt_name" value is based on attribute "myatt_number" so i am using value assistance for "myatt_name" that when user type in the value for "myatt_number" it will fire the query and get the "myatt_name" value from the register table.

Here is the query I am using in Value Assistance.

select name from dm_dbo.myregistertable where number = '$value(myatt_number)'

When i put the value for "myatt_number" then "myatt_name" doesn't populate any value.But it works if i go to the next tab and come back again on the "info" tab, is this the way it works or i am doing something wrong here.

Please let me know.

Make sure that "myatt_number" attribute comes before "myatt_name" attribute. The dependency of one over the other actually depends on the rendering sequence.

Hi Pappu,

It seems like the picklist is only being populated once the value in the first field is committed (i.e. you move to the second tab). The second control needs to know the number is complete but I suspect doing a return may close the dialog, try tabbing away from the field instead.

These controls tend to be used to select a "friendly" name from a list which subsequently stores a corresponding system ID to the attribute so I wonder why your setting both values against the object when it could be referenced from the registered table?

Hi Colin,

I marked it as helpful.

This is what i had to do to populate the value.

I also used value assistance for "myatt_number" like select number from dm_dbo.myregistertable so in the properties page it came with the drop down list and now when i select the value from that drop down list, the value for "myatt_name" is being polulated.

So when you select the value from the drop down list, the control refreshs the page and that causes to get the value populated the the second field. But this was not possible with out the drop down list.

As you said i can reference both value from the register table so i would use that for now. Still interesting to know why it is not working with out drop down value selection,

Here is the answer from EMC.

This is the expected behavior as per the design of the application .As there is no server side event involved when a text box is used ,the values will not be immediately reflected ,when you invoke any other server side event the changes gets saved during that time and your values are refreshed .That is why when you use a drop down the "onchange" server side event is triggered and your values are refreshed.

This is not available OTB and as a suggestion you can use any client side JavaScript to achieve your requirement.
