Different Branches

I created new branch in TeamSite. There are some existing branches as well. Can any one let me know which config file i should change to access some of the files of existing branches

Existing Suituation : Branch 1 exists, which has some html include files. I created branch2, in this new branch I developed one shtml which uses branch1's include files. But this developed shtml file is not working its not including the files of branch1.

can any one help me in this regard

You know, this is NOT very helpful at all. Some of you may be configuring new branches every day...or can do it in your sleep...but as the posts on this forum attest, configuring the iw.cfg file in order to preview correctly is one of the things people frequently struggle with. The person in one's company who did the original config may no longer work for the company, or it may have been set up by Interwoven consultants many months or years ago..

As for me, I took the training four years ago, but my first attempt to set up a new branch with a very different config came THIS M ONTH.

The Teamsite Admin manual documenation is anything but clear for someone who isn't already familiar with editing the config file. I know by experience...I stumbled through setting up the config to correctly preview css and images...but am totally stuck on the includes. Even after installing the plugin and following every piece of information I can find on the topic, they still don't show up and I'm back to square one yet again.. Our other branch config uses an app server for jsp, so it's a very different config.

I feel your pain regarding the documentation, but not all of it is bad. Since you're not the original poster, I assume your situation is different than ragaa's. When you reply, attach your iw.cfg and be explicit about what you're trying to do.

A proxy remap for includes (SSI's) ??? - Please check the documentation, which btw, you can get from the support site.

Have you heard of proxy plugin modules? iwproxy doesnt deal with SSIs. You need a proxy plugin on your webserver that will do the remapping for SSI's.

plus proxy and SSI are a real pain. The webserver needs to be restarted and then
error checking is done via the webserver, not iwproxy, so debugging that is different

My situation is similar to ragaa's, ecxept that we don't have the SSI's working at all. It's like starting from scratch, since the other branch is jsp and is configured to go to the app servier for preview.

Going back to my notes (this was late in June and I've had two emergency projects since then). We'd gotten the config done for css and images, amd regular html files previewed...it was only the shtml's with the server side includes that don't. We applied KB article 2181, How to configure IIS for server side includes...I think we also tried 2187 "how to remap virtual directories" as well. Still nothing.

How are you including the files? Can you copy your code here?

If you can also mention the vpaths of both the main file and the included file that will be good.

Yes, our previous version of our intranet (the first branch on teamsite) used SSI and shtml pages, was configured this way, so I know it can be done.. When we upgraded TS to 6.X, we went to the JSP pages, and the old config files got dumped Smiley Sad

All the include files are in the top level of the workarea (and the top level of the web site). They have .html extensions.

Typical shtml page calls them as 

//titandevp/default/main/southernstates/WORKAREA/southernstates/ is the root of the workarea

In iw.cfg, here's what got the css and images working with plain html files:

sscbranchrewrite=/default/main/southernstates

[sscbranchrewrite]
_docroot=/
/images=/images

SO...test.html at the workarea root goes and picks up images and css; whereas index.shtml at the workarea root gives a "HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found" when preview is attempted.

First of all, iwproxy has nothing to do with includes. It does not parse the <!--#include .. directive.

So, it doesn't matter what you have for [iwproxy_remap]

What's your webserver? Interwoven provides a plugin for SSI's for both IIS and Apache (1.3 and 2.0); Otherwise you will have to compile it from the source.

true but you can virtualize SSIs. That requires the SSI changes plus changes in iwproxy_plugin_remap (in iw.cfg)

debug information is reported through the webserver log rather than the iwproxy output

I didnt say we cannot virtualize SSI's - just that<i> iwproxy </i> doesnt apply the rules found in iw.cfg

basically, the plugin reads the remap rules in iwproxy_plugin_remap and executes them on the webserver itself.

Ok.. I think i got it a little off earlier.. the plugin doesnt read the iwproxy_plugin_remap rules dynamically, but only once when it is first installed... someone correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, we installed the IIS plugin...that's covered in KB article 2181, How to configure IIS for server side includes, which I mentioned we had applied.

So...there is nothing in [iwproxy_remap] or otherwise in iw.cfg that affects the SSI plugin one way or another? Well, I guess [iwproxy_plugin_remap] does, but only if you want to remap specific areas for some reason, such as changing references to workarea includes to staging area includes?

If that's the case, and there's nothing we're missing in iw.cfg, it sounds like we don't have IIS configed correctly to read the server side includes, despite appying KB 2181.

Good news! Our problem ended up being related to the fact that IIS 6 is very much locked-down with the default configuration and no one had bothered to enable server side includes in the IIS Manager!

That won't help the original poster, though, since his includes were working in another branch.

Thanks for helping me troubleshoot! Now on to my Open Deploy issues...(grins)...
