How to implement validations in WDK while accessing user entered values.

Hi All

I have the following dmf:text field accessing a numeric value from the user.How do i employ a validation to check that only valid numeric entries (no special characters,decimal places) are entered by the user?

Here is the text field

You can use inputmaskvalidator or regexpvalidator.

All controls to be validated must be wrapped with validator controls for validation

Hi Hari,

Thank you for the input. I went through the Reference guide and a site deatiling validations. I am trying out the examples provided in them. But i am unsure what are the prerequisites for the validation to work.

I recollect that i had achieved similar validation for a JSF based CMS and it did not require any modifiction onClick. When the user entered non numeric values inside a textbox meant for numeric entries, the validations sprung into action and displayed Error messages in red besides the text box. i am aiming a similar functionality.

Consider the example:

<dmf:text name="ssn" size="12"/> <dmf:inputmaskvalidator name="val_mask_ssn" controltovalidate="ssn" errormessage="Must be in the format nnn-nnn-nnnn." inputmask="###-###-####"/>

If i were to implement this above validation inside my JSP, will it be compulsory to call a validator function on my onClick of the link ( which passes all values to the Java class) .Or does the inputmaskvalidator implement it on its own?

Also the name of my text is '<%=DummyComponent.VOLUME_TEXT_CONTROL_NAME%>' can this be passed onto "controltovalidate"?

The code you provided is enough to be validated by WDK.

Validation control will validate the data when the form is submitted. Do you face any errors?

Error message will be displayed where your validation control tag is placed...

The issue is that even after adding the 'inputmaskvalidator' code inside the JSP, the validation does not take place.

The following is the area of code inside my JSP which i added assuming that the dmf:inputmaskvalidator tag was enough for validation.No changes were made to the Java code :

But after i place the above code to test the desired format; entries like 200 or 20 are also accepted along with entries like "222-222-2222". The volume text box must only accept numeric values (whole numbers) . If the user enters alphabets and clicks on the link, the validation error message should appear.

Also in my code the function that reads the volume is described below: The ultimate parameter for the volume field to be passed to a webservice of mine is in double format.Hence the String to double conversion.

The only dicey area for me is that the controltovalidate does not hav a regular name like "projectname" etc. Perhaps thats the issue.

I wish i could refer to an example to clearly understand where i am going wrong. Right now i have no clue as to how to proceed.
