What is the difference between Webtop and Web Publisher?

Hi All,

I have completed most of my customizations in Documentum using Webtop 6.5. It had its allied help with WDK and DFC etc.

Now i have come across the "Web Publisher" concept in Documentum and would like to know :

1) Is Web Publisher supposed to be used in a similar manner as Web Top; like if i need to make modifications will it be possible to do that for Web Publisher using Eclipse IDE and then making a WAR and then hosting it on Tomcat?

have not seen or used Web Publisher in a long while but my understanding is...

Webtop is the general end user client application

Web Publisher is derived from Webtop (just like DA is and I guess DAMTop is and RM {Records Manager}) and is focused on providing web content authors a means to generate content for a web site.

As Web Publisher is derived from Webtop i.e. it is a WDK app, then yes you would customise it in a similar fashion

Webpublisher is the Web Content management client from EMC where as Webtop is Content management Client. Both are developed based on WDK frame work, both works differently as the functionalities are different.

I general the use of WebTop is to store and retrieve files, send it through workflows etc. Where Web publisher can be used to do all these in addition to that, user will be able to generate Web Contents using the OOTB editors or using editor’s like Dreamweaver etc... It can then publish files to web/application servers. It uses the site caching services to deliver web Content to Web servers.

You can customize it just like any other WDK applications but there are some differences between WebTop and web publisher.
