i am developing a DCT and i have to display the calender on clicking the text area of an item. This is a calendar pop up commonly used with windows applications.

Read documentation on Templating or Forms Publisher. Look for "callout".

If you search the forums with "calendar" you will find tons of posts about this.

Whats your TS version?

There is no supported way of doing it on click of the text area, but you can implement one through a cgi-callout. You should be able to find one you can use/modifty if you search a bit.
