How to identy a document or folder is created newly or copied from another..

Hi,

I need your help. Our users are creating documents and folders in the Documentum repository using two methods

Method 1. Creating new doc/folders using File>> New>>Document or File>> New>>Folder menu

Method 2. Copy an existing document/folder into documentum clipboard and paste it in a folder

My question is is there any DQL available to find out how the document or folder has been created. Is a document or folder created by using File>New option or using copy & paste method(clipboard)

Can i run a DQL to find out how a document/folder was created in the repository. I mean which method they have used for that

Since we need to produce such info, could you please help me to find out?

For the folder, you can probably get the information by auditing dm_save and dm_saveasnew. When you do a copy, I suppose that a saveasnew is used (to be confirmed). For a new folder from scratch, save must be used.

For documents, I'm afraid Webtop is using saveasnew for both cases (a new document is created as a copy of the selected template). So without customizing, I'm afraid you won't get that information.

Yes you are correct. For documents the dm_saveasnew event is triggered whenever a document is created or copied. But in folders, the event is triggered only for copy event. I shall find out if i can use DM_document object's creation date for documents.
