hi to all, guide me to learn documentum

Hi, im a new to documentum, can u guide me to learn the documentum easy and quickly.

can any one explain the architecture of the documentum.

And another question is pls explain me, the flow of documentum ie starting from the index.jsp to web.xml and how the other component are call or related to documentum.

What you're asking would take hundreds of pages to explain.

Several ways to learn:

1. study the forums when you have specific questions.

2. when you do an Advanced Search in forums you'll get back documents, too. Study those (like DFC developer's guide, administrator's guide).

3. check the WDK/WebTop development guides (PDF) for answers to your index.jsp to web.xml.

4. take an online or in person course

5. study the presentations from EMC World...many are available

Failing that.... read lots of manuals, download the developer edition and install onto a virtual PC. Also google for various Documentum blogs.

Hi everybody,

Let me tell you i started to interleave the documentum world about three months ago and i must tell you, the best way to start is to crunch the fundamentals manual, followed by DQL and DFC to get on track.

On the EMC site you'll find a lot of tips and tricks getting on specializing yourself. In mean time you'll get so 'in' to Documentum that a new world is opening full of wonderful possibilities and be sure it will give you a 'kick'.

Hi rock,

Well documentum is quite more than just webtop. I'd recommend considering the reading of the following material, in this order:

1. There's a book from Pawan Kumar (http://www.amazon.com/Documentum-Content-Management-Foundations-Certification/dp/1847192408) which may be good as a starting point even if I personnaly consider this is a quite incomplete introduction to Documentum. But it's OK as a "Documentum for Dummies". You may skip the book if you have good reading capabilities and a good overall IT knowledge.

2. For the core-documentum part, I'd recommend reading the following:

- Content Server Fundamentals

- a technical paper named something like "Documentum Technical Overview" (you should find it on the powerlink site) (update: just found. Do not really worry about the fact it's about version 5 : http://www.usda.gov/egov/egov_redesign/intranet/edep/wp_tech_d5_arch_digest.pdf)

3. Then, for an indepth view (even if reading those may be difficult)

- Content Server Administration Guide. Although this is an administration guide, it contains much general information

- DQL Reference (the upper parts of it). Even if this is considered as a "reference" guide you come back to when you have forgotten some DQL-related stuff, the first parts of it are very interesting for a beginner.

4. The for DFC, the Documentum Foundations Class Development guide. I wouldn't go for reading the DFS (Documentum Foundation Serverices) guide as you may come back to it when needed (if necessary) and one must first understand DFC before going to DFS.

5. For Webtop (WDK), depending on whether you prefer having a quick overview or going directly in some detailed description of WDK, read the following in the appropriate order:
