Regulatory-Documentum or Sharepoint

This is a very basic question during the tool evaluation or feasibility in any organization.

Can anyone please tell me what does Documentum provide in terms of regulatory documents?To Documentum what does regulatory & audit requirements mean?

I could see that Sharepoint also provides security features,version control etc.But what different is Documentum from Sharepoint in terms of regulatory?

I tried searching many forums ,articles but could not get a clear thought on this.Any definitions,references,links would be appreciated!

Sharepoint has poor Records management capability compared to Documentum.

1. Records Management

2. Retention Policy Services

3. My Documentum suite (optional)

Answer to this question lies in requirements such as types of documents, volume of documents, type of Retention policies, complexity of workflows/lifecycle, integration to ERP systems or capture solution. Once you nail down your basic requirements, you can evaluate the product better. As a standalone system, they both have pros and cons. Documentum provides better library services, integration, retention, etc, however, Sharepoint provides rich interface to MS Office. If all your documents are MS-Word, your users may like Sharepoint better then Documentum. Fortunately, with sharepoint-documentum integration, you can have best of both worlds. For example, if you like Documentum's retention services and Sharepoint's MS-Office integration, you can integrate the 2 systems using External Blob storage (EBS), where documents are stored in Documentum (with retention) and user interface is Sharepoint.

I did refer to the products and documentations.Specifically when you say 'Poor records management in sharepooint', what does it actually mean?Does this mean that Sharepoint security is loose, workflow is very restricted, retention policies not available?

My requirement is more or less similar to what Neeraj has explained.I think I need to evaluate 'MyDocumentum for Sharepoint' !
