GetVariable within same wft

Hi there,

I have a wft file which has pre-defined workflow variables. I need to use one of the variable within a currently activated task. Based on the variable value defined by another earlier transitioned task it has to be passed a parameter along with the command of current task.

1. Is it possible to use a variable declared at top can be used later in a task in a static wft file?

2. can anyone provide me a snippet of code as how to proceed with this?

All suggestions are welcome!!

I don't quite understand everything you said, you might want to spell things out a little clearer.

I think you're asking if you can use a variable that you set in an external task within your wft. If so, the answer is obviously no, as the wft only comes into play before the workflow starts and the external task comes into play during the workflow.

You could, however, have your first external task set a task variable for the second external task, instead of trying to pass something to it (which isn't possible). Which is basically the same thing.

Let me know if I completely misunderstood what you are asking (which is very likely).

To be more clear:

We have a static wft file in which we defined 1 variable called X as null value. In the wft file there is an external task (TASK A) which based on certain procedures and methods fetches a value. (Either TRUE or FALSE)

There is another task (TASK D transitioned from A->B->C->D) which has to be passed a paramter based on the fetched value of Task A. My query is can we re-state the value of the workflow variable X and re-use the same variable to be passed as parameter to the command of task D?

Else if you can suggest any other way to get around the requirement... its always welcome.

So you have a job variable called X that task A sets to either TRUE or FALSE and you want this value passed to task D?

Why can't task D just retrieve the value of job variable X?

You should get the current value of varibale X from task D, as task A has already updated the value of Varibale X.

You might want to clarify whether you are using a job variable or a task variable. As Jeff mentioned, if you're using a job variable, there is nothing more to do as it's value exists throughout the life of the workflow. That means if one task changes the value, another task can read the new value later on.
