How HTTP Outbound and Inbound/SMTP Activity Processes Work in Background

I am new to DCTM 6.X and for upcoming requirement I need to Send email from DCTM to Lotus Notes. I learnt about Process Builder HTTP (Inbound/Outbound) and SMTP Activity Template are capable of doing the same. I want to know if my above understanding is correct and how does HTTP and SMTP Activity Template Processes work in Background. I surfed and checked some reference manual but could not find any core stuff which can explain me background process.

It will be very helpful if you could share any related information in form of diagram/ description/ reference documentation/ guide/ any pointers etc.

If you want to send email. Just use the SMTP template. In this template. You have to fill in the smtp host name, and any login credentials required to send emails. This will depend on how your SMTP server is set uop. Most companies don't require authentication if the email is coming from inside the company but some do. Also some organizations have dedicated SMTP Servers which are used for notifications and don't require authentication. You will have to contact your IT Department for that. HTTP Inbound and outbound activities are used for a different purpose
