WTF do you mean by asset?

Adam Stoller

An asset is any file submitted from a workarea to the staging area in TeamSite.

This includes, but need not be limited to:
- text (plain text, html, xml, etc.)
- image files (jpeg, gif, etc.)
- multi-media files (flash, etc.)
- FormsPublisher files (DCTs, DCRs, PT, generated pages)
- scripts (ASP, JSP, Perl, etc.)
- source code (java, C#, etc.)
- binaries (PDF, executables, etc.)

When you first install TeamSite - there are no assets. The only assets in TeamSite are those that your organization creates and submits. (An unsubmitted file within a workarea could be considered an asset, but in most cases the term applies to versioned assets - and thus the submit is required for that definition to apply)
