JDBC Datasource Adaptor

Hi,

From my previous posts it's obvious that I am very new to Documentum. Kindly bear with my silly questions and any help is appreciated.

I am using Dctm 6.5. I am trying to build the template in Formsbuilder. Its a search form. This form is then later attached to Taskspace. I have to search the external database in this form. So I am trying to build the JDBCDataSourceAdaptor. I planned to set up the connection and test the list building in Formsbuilder itself. It seems impossible. The jdbc_<adaptor_name>.properties file goes under my <war_file>/WEB-INF/classes. This is where I give the connection details. Somehow I have to tell the SQL query for with the search criteria and point the listview where the results goes to. It seems I cant mention the query in Formsbuilder, because it restricts to the tables only in the same repository that I signed in.

So it leaves to do it programmatically. I saw some datasource xmls and queries in few discussion threads. But I dont know where to place them and how to call them in my code. I searched Formsbuilder user guide, and other development guides. They just says the datasource xmls, but not clearly says where to place them etc. Please somebody help me in this? If you could give rough steps, it would be of great help.

We are using JBoss 4.2 and SQL Server db.

Should I have to have my jdbc.properties file under <warfile> / WEB-INF / classes or somewhere else? (I have the war file already as I am just developing new screen. )

Where should I have the other related xmls (datasource xml etc)?

Have you read the Forms Builder Development Guide? It specifies where to put these files and how to configure/call JDBC datasource.

Thank you for your reply to my question.

The Forms builder developer guide says how to customize the JDBC datasource adaptor. I have attached the picture of the "Adaptor Configuration Manager" to show my JDBC adaptor.

Initially I had "jdbc_erhastatus.properties" with the connection details under jboss/server/deploy/<project_war>/WEB-INF/classes. It doesnt seem to work. Then I created an initial parameter called "Connection" and gave the connection string as its value (as shown in the picture.).

I face one more difficulty here. I have to assign this adaptor to the search result list view. In the Forms Builder user guide, it says under "Specifying an external data source" to change something under "Properties" >> Cick 'General' >>click 'Data & Storage'. But when I select my listview in design window and go to 'Data & Storage' I see nothing there. I dont know how then I can assign the erhastatus jdbc datasource adaptor I created. As this is not done, I couldnt 'Modify Query' which gives me 'Invalid database or table name' error.

The reason I take this approach because I have similar search screen in the same Taskspace application, and this new search screen is going to be in the next tab. But the existing search screen works on the table in docbase. I have to external storage. If I go via the steps I mentioned above my development lessens to 50%.

Please post your connection string thats in the jdbc.properties file.

Also, you should "sql" argument in the adapter configuration. Dont create another parameter.

My jdbc_erhastatus.properties file:

I used 'Connection' Initial parameter as it was adviced in Forms builder user guide.

I couldnt assign this adaptor to my search result list view also. I mean, I couldnt modify the query to reflect my external datasource as it says invalid database/table.

Your first line looks different from whats in the Forms Builder guide:

url=jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://myServerName:1433
pubs=myTestRepository

Try renaming the file to just jdbc.properties as well.
