Starting Media Bin Enterprise Manaager

Hi.

I just started with Media Bin and am fresh into this.

After Installing the MB and its components, started the server - logged into it and tested everything working sucessfully.

Everything is installed on LOCAL M/c with single Administrator user for test purpose to begin with.

Just out of curiosity, disconnected the Network and then tried connecting - working on Media Bin : Started the SQL Server , Started the Media Bin Services along with Publication Services , and then tried starting the ENTERPRISE MANAGER / HOTFOLDER EDITOR / CLIENT. Neither of it could be logged into, now

Environment is W2K Adv. Server , MS SQL Server , MB 4.5. sp2.

Is this a must to be connected to network even though when every thing is available on Local M/c when working on MediaBin ?

Also , What are the LOG files that we NEED to monitor in case of Debugging ERRORs ? What locations to look into ?

Did I understand you correctly that you disconnected the machine from the network and tried to make it work? If so, it's probably not a problem with MediaBin but, the configuration. Your MediaBin was probably installed with default configurations and configured to connect to the machine name. When you unplug it from your network domain, well...... You can't connect.

For example, what do you get back when you do this query?

Hello Stacy,

One of the record's column values are :-

Setting_id = {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} for
Setting_name = ServerDomainName & second record contains value for IPadress.

So, Basically does it conclude that IF MB is installed with default configurations and configured to connect to the machine name on network, it cannot start WITHOUT network connections.

We CANNOT work on Media Bin on stand alone m/c's thats confirmed OR is there a way to change the configuration / settings ?

The MediaBin server's log files are typically located in Program Files\MediaBin Server\logs. Check the MBP.log for any errors while starting the MediaBin server when you are not connected to the network. It is most likely unable to find your MBDataDirectory which is a shared directory. I believe there is a knowledge base article in the Tech Library that describes the steps needed to run the MediaBin server on a standalone machine.
