Workflow does not transition to the next task.

Hi All,

We are using IWOV 6.1 SP2 on Windows platform. Our workflow has following steps.....

step1: Metadata Capture using iwmetadata.cgi with start =t and immidiate =t
next task: ContentLead Notification through email , and next is contentlead review ...and so ..on

This workflow is working most of the times. However, few random instances, when user enter metadata and click "Save and Close" button, the Screen keeps spinning and hangs. The task is visible in the workflow tab of teamsite interace, and we could find the task and click "Start Input Task" button to invoke the metadata tagging step....and then it would complete.

We are not sure why the metadata capture is not completely successfully and transitioning into the next and instead waiting in the workflow for user to initiate this step again.

I am wondering if some one else went through similar issue and have any pointers in resolving this.

I would be inclined to check when it happens and see if the iwmetadata.cgi process is actually sticking. Just look for it in the task manager (or better yet use Process Explorer from sysinternals.com). If it isn't running to completion and triggering the callback, that's why you aren't getting your transition. Figuring out exactly why it's stalling out may be a challenge though. Is the box under heavy load? What does an iwstat -c look like when it happens?
