Copied, linked documents

Hello,

We're using folder based security, and we are wondering if there is a way other than customization to indicate if a doc in a folder is an original, a copy, or a linked doc?

About the only way we can think of is to create a custom attrib. field that would be populated with a C or L for a copied or linked doc. Blank in field would indicate an original.

And it would be best if there was not manual entry to populate that field, that the system could populate it based on whether the item was a copied or linked doc.

Does r. click / View / all locations return the copied and linked doc locations, or just any multiple locations of the original?

There is no different between original and copied document (ie the content server does NOT manage a relationship between the two). A "link" document is really the non-primary folder location of the document.

For example, if you create doc A in folder A, then folder A is the primary folder for the doc A. If you link it to folder B, the folder B is secondary (non-primary) folder location for that doc. If you copy doc A and create doc B, its an entirely new object and where you place doc B will be its primary location.

Currently when a user views a doclist, there is no way to tell whether

the docs in the list are original, copies or links.

There's no way to tell difference between original and copy. You might be differential links by looking at i_folder_id[0] value and compare it to the currrent folder id.
