Perl issue | while upgrading from TS 5.5.2 to TS 6.5

Hi all,

We have upgraded TS 5.5.2 to 6.5, because of this /iwperl is been updated. When we try to some of the other installable like DBI Perl module we are getting error as follow.

ERROR:

I think there are some words missing from the last sentence which makes it a bit difficult to interpret - but I believe the answer is something like this:

Prior to the upgrading of perl in the TS distribution - Interwoven used to ship DBD's for most of the major DBs.

With the upgrade of perl - legal issues arose that prevented Interwoven from shipping pre-built versions of the DBDs - so you now have to donwload them from CPAN (or wherever) and build / install them yourself.

You should not try to use the old versions of the DBDs as they are most likely incompatible with the newer version of Perl - you need to download newer ones.

In order to build/install the DBD's - you usually need to have a software development environment on your server (compilers, linkers, 'make', 'install', etc.). There are some threads (most notably with regard to building DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle on Solaris) that contain a lot of the painful details of the process.

For Windows - you *might* be able to use ActiveState perl's PPM utility to download [precompiled?] versions of the DBDs and then *possibly* be able to move the installed modules into the iw-perl/site/lib directory structure in order to use them with iwperl (not sure - haven't had to deal with this yet). iwperl does not ship with PPM utility - it ships with CPAN - but CPAN expects the software development environment (at least 'make' and 'install') to exist in order to automate the installation process.

If/when you do take care of acquiring the DBD modules - keep good notes - you'll probably find that you (or someone else in the organization) will need to do the same thing again at some later point in time.

Just thought to mention that, given that you're moving from 5.5.2 to 6.5, you need to be aware of the Perl changes, detailed in KB 51304

we had a number of issues with Perl's utf8/latin1 encoding changes, esp. in reading/writing files, and a bug in <iwov_xslt> presentation tag. Use Search for more...

It means that these modules are not bundled with the iwperl 5.8.2 installation.

It doesn’t mean that these modules are not supported by iwperl 5.8.2.

i have check some of your mail post and iam also facing the same issue, the way you have faced. Right now iam getting an error saying DBD Smiley Surprised

racle.pm not found.

Because of that i thought of installing DBI and DBD modules under /site/lib/. i also found out that "DBD and DBI" folder are present in /vendor/lib/ folder and does not contain "oracle.pm" inside this folder.

if i try to install DBI inside using Makefile.pl under /site/lib/ folder iam facing the /aoto/POSIX/autosplit.ix file not found error.

Let me know if any one has faced the simular issue and i like to know how to resolve this.

I don't have an answer for you - but you will have a much better chance of getting assistance for your problem if you include information about the platform/OS that you are on. The instructions for how to do something on Solaris are probably quite different than those for doing it on Windows, and it is possible that different variants of the OS's will have still further differences in the instructions.

Someone else will have to assist - I'm not in a solaris environment at this time, and don't have oracle either. All my findings with respect to building DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle on Solaris are in another thread already on DevNet

It sounds like your library path is screwed up. Are you using iw-perl to when running Makefile.pl? That has the iw-perl/lib library path included by default, where the POSIX module is installed (standard lib). If you are not using iwperl, you can set the PERL5LIB environment variable to include the iw-perl/lib, but that would be a very bad idea.
