can not configure types based on dm_message_archive

With Composer or DAB, I can not edit or create custom types based on dm_message_archive!!! Which is very frustrating as My Documentum for Outlook (DCO) will not accept any other types for email messages.

On upgrade to D6.5, the type dm_message_archive was converted to a light weight type

Composer does not support creation or editing of light weight types

DAB does not support creation or editing of light weight types

How does one create & configure a lightweight type with D6.5sp2 tools?????????????????????????

I can do some stuff with DQL, (create custom subtype, add attributes, with VA) but even that throws warnings/errors in IDQL

Post 6.5 release, you need to use Composer instead of DAB for editing or creating a custom types.

By default, the composer cannot edit/add LWSO (dm_message_archive) type or subtype.

You need to install one more binaries (LWSO Plug-in) available along with the composer binaries in the download center.

( For example:LightweightObject_R.6.x.xxxx.xxxx.zip)

If I remember correctly, the server should allow you to convert the LWSO back to normal sysobject. I havent done this before, so I dont know the exact procedures, but once its back to normal sysobject, you should be able to change its type to custom email type (with custom attribute).

I just took a look into "Composer User Guide 6.5" and it says:

Creating a lightweight object type....Documentum High-Volume Server is an extension of Documentum Content Server that supports features implemented to solve common problems with large content stores, such as email archiving. It requires an additional license key specified when Content Server is installed.

So as the Object Reference says dm_message_archive is a lightweight type since 6.5 that might be the reason why you can not extend this type. I guess it would be a nice question for the Support-Team on how to extend this type without a HVS-License...

If my client has purchased My Documentum for Outlook licences, surely this would also supply a HVS-License? or is that kind of common sense not applied in Documentum land

There are more features in HVS besides LWSO, so having My Documentum for Outlook license does not equate having license to HVS.

Sorry no I never did. Could not figure out howto make DCO do anything useful for me. Was rather annoyed as I wasted a lot of time trying to figure it out.

I was not the only person to run into these problems. I was at a new company in January, working for a consultancy. That consultancy hit the DCO wall also. Failure was not an option and I guess they might have had more time and resources than me (I had a week). They created their own Outlook client. As it was 98% of what my client of July 2010 wanted, I put the two companies in contact.
