How to find WDK component?

Hi,

I have very basic question about WDK development. I am not new to WDK/Webtop development but looking for better approach. What is best way to find out which WDK/Webtop component is being used by looking at Webtop UI? For example, if on the document list view someone ask you to make changes what is the best way to find which component needs to be customized? What I have been doing is right click the page and view the source to find out which JSP is being used and from the source probably find the component class. I recently discovered this is not the right approached and was actually laughed at.

I am using Eclipse/Tomcat with WDK 5.3 and 6.5.

Browse to the URL

http://<server>:<port>/webtop/wdk/tracing.jsp

Find the checkbox forminfocomments and enable it.

This will enable comments while processing the form

Once it was enabled, access the component from the WDK (webtop) application. Right click on the page and click on view source.

browse through the source code where you can find the component details in the comments of the source.

Search the strings folders for the NLS ID of a unique piece of text on the form of interest. Once you have the key, you can search JSP and java sources which use the key.... generally they will lead you to the component.....

Take a look at the WDK iTrace utility: http://developer.emc.com/developer/articles/wdk_itrace_tool.htm

Deploy it on your development application server and you always check which component you're currently in.
