Std vs. Professional interface: locking files question

In the standard interface if I click on a file to edit it, I get my DCT displayed properly and the file is locked. If I click on "cancel" the lock gets released as I would expect.

If I do this same sequence of steps in professional it all works the same except the lock on the file does NOT get released.

Why? Is this behavior as I should expect it? or is it a bug?

6.5sp2 on Windows.
