INSO Type mapping
GotoArtz
Hi,
When I import a ".cvs" or a ".chr" document in worksite 8.0, I would like to get the "application type" assigned automatically to it, such that the .csv files or the .chr files open in excel.(Application "EXCEL" should be automatically assigned to the .csv and .chr data types).
I created a new .csv document type in database administration and assigned it to the excel application. As there is no current INSO type for excel, I have not assigned any new INSO type for the .csv app type.
But, when I try to import a document(.csv or .chr) in worksite8.0, it does not automatically assign to "EXCEL" and forces me to manually select the app type as "EXCEL".How do I get it auto-assigned to an application?
Can anyone provide any insight on this?

Hi,
Does anyone have an idea of adding a new file type (which does not have a INSO type value), such that when the file is imported, the app type is selected automatically.
Can you tell me if we can add a new INSO type value to DBAdmin. If yes, how?

See the section entitled "Mapping WorkSite Document Types to INSO File Types" in the Server Admin Guide. This should be on your server installation CD. If you don't have access to the CD, you should be able to retrieve the PDF file from the Tech Support website.

Hey,
Thanks for your reply. But I did check the worksite manual.
It does not mention as to what you need to do when there is no available INSO type for a particular value.
For example : All excel related INSO type values have already been assigned to EXCEL.EXE.Now I want to open a .csv file in excel and that too automatically. But I cannot find any matching/existing INSO type value to assign to this new data type .csv.Thats the problem.
Can you help?

Hi GotoArtz
I'm no expert.
But a cheap and nasty way to get the unrecognised CSV to map to Excel is to add the FI_UNKNOWN INSO to CSV. You should already have this (FI_UNKNOWN) INSO and from what I can see it can be used for all unrecognised filetypes.
The only drawback is that everything unknown could get mapped to EXCEL as well.
It's worth testing?

Hi,
Thanks for your advice.I did try the F_UNKNOWN and it did work and as you said everything else that is unknown also gets assigned to this F_UNKNOWN INSO type.
I have contacted worksite support and they suggested that this approach is not recommended, also they have asked me to raise this as an enhancement request.
