Perl | Installation

Hi All,

When we try to install Perl, by default it get installed in /usr/local/ lib/ location. Is their anyway I can change the path of the location where it has to get installed.

One more question: Already their is a perl 5.8.2 in TS 6.5 can i again install it under /iw-perl/site/lib folder so that i will be getting some modules like file::Glob.pm,POSIX.(this are the file which are not part of Interwoven teamsite installtion)

Please let me know ASAP.

You do NOT need to install a new version of perl to get the modules that you want for iwperl - instead you need to download and install the modules (generally in iw-home/iw-perl/site/lib, though there are some exceptions which have been mentioned in other threads).

I would reccommend that you do NOT try to install your own copy of perl in iw-home/iw-perl/bin - doing so will most likely void your support contract with Interwoven and potentially cause all sorts of headaches.

can you tell me in step wise what needs to be done in resolving this issue, if you have any alternate.

In most cases - modules are farily stand-alone script files and and as such can be copied from their location in one path to the same relative location in another path, e.g.: /usr/local/perl/lib/****/yyy.pm => /usr/iw-home/iw-perl/site/lib/****/yyy.pm

In some cases, perl modules contain sub-folders of associated modules and/or other files - these too would need to be copied as per above.

In still other cases, perl modules are part of compiled code. These *may* be able to be copied as per above, but if the compiled code contains hard-coded path references it might not work. The only solution in that case is to build the module yourself from source - which can usually be found on CPAN, but requires having a full software development environment to do so.
