How to generate 2 output htmls at single invocation of iwpt_compile(URGENT)

Hi All,

Me a newbie for TeamSite.Please suggest the correct approach.

There is a simple tpl that is used by TS GUI to generate an html file at a configured path(specified in templating.cfg)
I intend to create another copy of same html file (with few modifications automatically) at a new (configured path ) when a user clicks on "generate".

Tried following 2 approaches :

1) I can modify .tpl file to explicitly call iwpt_compile.ipl with new path and ofile parameters. But how do i configure/fetch the new output path value as teamsite only reads a single value of at a time?

2)As soon as the original .tpl file is compliled and generates the regular output html i can write the code to create a new html file.simply like print EOP but how do i specify the new path and make this code to output in a new html file rather than same file?

You can access the path of the directory of generated html using a simple perl statement "$working_folder=iwpt_get_ofile_name('dirname');"

and by manipulating this path u can generate the new path of file .
You can put this code on ur tpl file

$working_folder=iwpt_get_ofile_name('dirname');
$CompleteFilePath=$working_folder."fileName";
$fileContent="FileContentHere";
open(FILE,">$CompleteFilePath");
print FILE $fileContent;
close(FILE);

Actually this is what i usually do to fetch the path for the regular file that is generated. Now I want to fetch another path where another copy of html file is to be generated.

what i intend is abc.tpl should be able to generate /path1/abc.html path2/abc1.html.abc and abc1 have few differences.

well!? ..from where does iwpt_get_ofile_name("dirname") fetch the values?

Hi Neetee,

Suppose u hv generated first.html file on path "...F1/html/first.html" by clicking generate button. "iwpt_get_ofile_name("dirname")" will return the path of "...F1/html" folder path.
And now its upto you that you want to generate the second.html in the same folder or in other folder. By modifying this path u can generate the html file somewhere else.

I see that it reads the first value but not the second....

What is your Req. Do you want to generate into one single branch if not try with the following

branch vpath-regex=".*" preview-dir="/templatedata/iw_preview"

and plan to fetch the new directory in .tpl file to call iwpt_compile.ipl with new directory path (-ofile).
but dont think this is possible ..only one attribute value works.(obviously Smiley Sad

In this case the structure of two htmls will be same.As Neetee wants to change Header/Footer.
This will require to change one html manually or will require ne script or workflow development.

You are right and thats what I plan to do in the .tpl file.

as soon as the regular html is generated i will explicitly invoke iwpt_compile.ipl to generate new output html (with the changes in header/footer) at a new location.

now question is how to fetch the new location along with original one.
i,e 2 values for one attribute.

Have you considered the option of using the "iw_ostream" tag ?
Basically you could output multiple files at different locations using this tag

I don't believe the issue is with templating.cfg.

If you allow files to be created within a directory ($workarea/) then they are automatically allowed to be created within any sub-directory thereunder ($workarea/newfolder/).

The issue is with the PT and/or how you are calling the PT.
If the subdirectory can be programmatically determined - then either using iw_ostream or basic Perl I/O within the PT will allow you to generate both files from the same DCR in one step (note: in either of these cases - the second file will need to have the appropriate TST EA's added to it explicitly as FormsPublisher will only add those automatically if you use iwgen / standard GUI interfaces for generate / regenerate; and only add them to the file explicitly referenced on the command line / within the GUI prompt).

If you need the paths to be arbitrarily specified - then you need to provide your own front-end / custom menu item - which prompts for both paths and then executes the generate command itself, twice - once with each output file as an argument.

It is very easy to do that either you can do by calling iwpt_get_ofile_name(); twice into the tpl file and hard code the directory path with this else the script is another way.

the other option is iw_ostream tag and you could output multiple files at different locations using this tag. probably you need to write the code someething like that :

my @outputFiles; # List of iw_ostream output files

here you need to genrate the output for multiple target folders

iw_ostream file="$output"

It talks about redirecting output to other file than the file generated.

The syntax will be somewhat like below

<iw_ostream file='a.html'>
whatever u put here will be stored in file a.html.

</iw_ostream>

If u want to generate the html files in same folder than not a problem.
If want to generate in diff folder than u can use "mode attribute" in tag. Refer "Teamsite Templating Developer's Guide" for detail.

Here is what you need to do
1.You can use iw_perl tags in your TPL to do compute your output path.
2.Inside your iw_perl tags, You can start with the WA path (either handed over from workflow or get it from the DCT if you are storing it in there) and massage that to get the output path you require.
3.Store this path in a variable and use this variable for the file attribute in iw_ostream

Try creating the directories within an iw_perl section of the PT *prior* to the iw_ostream piece - and I recommend you use File: Smiley Tongue

ath's mkpath() instead of just mkdir() -- also remember to make sure that the argument you're giving it is a *full* *filesystem* path.
