Integration with Portal 8.1

I am a newbie to the Interwoven / Teamsite product stack and I have a basic question. My client wants to integrate teamsite with BEA Portal 8.1. Does Teamsite integrate with BEA Portal via the CM-SPI or only crudely via the BulkLoader into the BEA Virtual Content Repository?

OpenDeploy 6.0.2 is supposed to allow you to use the bulkloader directly, though custom scripts to achieve this do not seem very complicated either. It's quite effective - I'm not sure what exactly is crude about it.

As for the SPI - I believe that is for using a custom DB schema in your portal - TeamSite does not hold any sort of DB schema so you would use the SPI create a custom solution that way. I guess that's the whole point of the SPI - every implementation would be different. A silver bullet wouldn't make sense here.

Read some of my other postings in the same forum. When Interwoven tells you that they have integration, take this with a pinch of salt. TeamPortal is a highly specific 'solution' that is not suitable, IMO to most of scenarios.

Basically, yes, one would need to develop a custom solution, depending the particular requirements, in particular, of your Portal implementation.

I went down the path of using the bulkloader and 2 instances of a Portal

It makes sense to say TeamPortal is a specific solution.

As far as I understand it - it allows you to embed the content editing function of teamsite as a portlet on your portal. Think of it putting content center inside a portlet.

When most people talk about integrating the two - it's usually about publishing content to the portal application for consumption for the specific implementation they have.

I am doing an integration on similar lines - could you share your experience on how well did it go?
I am thinking of having the OpenDeploy tool publish content and metadata into the portal server and invoking a custom built adapter for loading the metadata into the BEA portal repository. Is this workable?

you don't need an adapter. BEA Bulkloader does that. I triggered it as a DNR .

I'd advise you to do some thourough basic TeamSite training before you procees to any integration/customisation.

I thought it was all based on CSSDK, and templating is not exposed via CSSDK.

CSSDK was not used at all. Templated content is delivered to the Webogic server by bulkloader

We are also trying to intergrate OD6.1 with Weblogic Portal 8.1

We want to deploy Content( Images,Videos, Text Files, Documents) and their metadata on the Portal using BEA bulk loader.

We plan to use the BEA Bulk loader adapters to achieve it.

Any one tried such a thing? Could someone guide us on issues which we may encounter and other best practices.

We tried looking into the bulkloader adapter without much success - the adapters come with little support from interwoven and not much documentation. I believe the latest version of OD supports bulkloader better (file system repositories as well as db). In the end - all it does is call bulkloader via the command line instead of the java class/API.

Try it out - let us know how you go.

For our integration we migrated to OD6.1 which does provide us with the Bulk Loader adapter, however not too much documentation to understand the function.

What I figured out is to call the Bulk loader adapter in the OD Deployment config file. This bulk Loader adapter (another XML) would intern call the BEA Bulk loader.

But i havnt figured out where these files need to reside. My OD deployment config file resides on my HOST machine. Will the BulkLoader adapter be on Host machine or the Target Machine (Server where BEA portal resides).

Yeah the adapters are not very mature just yet.

The xml configuration file resides on your target machine (where your portal sits) and all the paths etc must reference the weblogic installation on the target.

When we try to load the same content directly using the BEA Bulkloader Shell script the content is loading in the VCR.

I was always skeptical about those 'adaptors', still am. Use BEA BulkLoader directly. My client ended up with shell scripts that run BulkLoader like that, no issues whatsoever.
